From a God’s-eye view that knows the truth, of course it matters. For that matter, from the perspective of someone mortal who doesn’t participate in the conservative media ecosystem and sees traditional sources of information as flawed but fundamentally honorable, of course it matters. But as a political matter, in terms of achieving consensus that can undergird legitimacy, I’m not sure it matters. And that’s what I’m concerned with here.
