hi Noah, thanks for this discussion of The Lost Daughter. I think it really gets to the heart of the problem, which isn't the story, isn't the characters, isn't the acting, which is wonderful, but the flat-footed structuring of the narrative. Imagine, as you are doing, if Leda revealed her secret to Nina by telling her story. a moment of real connection and sisterhood. Then the revelation about the doll and then the assault by Nina.
