If you are a regular reader of this newsletter, you may be wondering where I’ve been, and when I will be back. The answer is that I’ve been at the Austin Film Festival, which I’ve attended before and which is always all-consuming while I am there. I was planning on writing about that experience, as well as about the end of the Stratford Festival season, along with recent political events—particularly the elections in Brazil and Israel—this week.
But I had to fly back early because my father—who has been ill for some time but was doing remarkably well all things considered—was suddenly rushed to the hospital on Sunday. He passed away on Monday night, and the funeral is tomorrow.
I will return to this space next week after the end of shiva.
Baruch Dayan Ha’emet.
